Dan Spohn Vs. Josh Stansbury II Set For Bellator June 22:
Dan Spohn | Josh Stansbury
Bellator 71 has pitted two local strikers against each other in the light heavyweight division as a nice primer for their first foray into West Virginia. Dan “The Dragon” Spohn (6-2) is currently 1-2 with the promotion and is looking to even things up with a big win over a past opponent in Josh “The Sandman” Stansbury (3-2).
Stansbury is coming into the bout fresh off of his one round blow out over John Opfar at Caged Fury 16. The two met all the way back in 2009 with Spohn securing the win via guillotine choke in the second round. Although Spohn would have to be considered the early favorite based on their first meeting and his three recent Bellator outings, Stansbury is a silky smooth striker with the type of skills to give Spohn similar problems he had against Atila Vegh and Kelvin Tiller. Not to mention he’s on a three fight win streak, which always helps.
Personally, I am very interested in this bout. Spohn’s :09 second KO over Dane Bonnigson has bought him a temporary pass on his last two losses and this fight is imperative to his career with the promotion. Stansbury will be more than happy to take that torch and light his own fire should things swing his way.
